Course Levels Explained

Entry Level 2

This is a foundation level qualification designed for learners who are new to a subject or may need additional support with literacy, numeracy, or confidence. Courses at this level are highly practical and focus on developing basic skills and understanding through hands-on activities. Learners are often guided closely by tutors and assessed through simple tasks or observations rather than formal exams.

Ideal for: Younger learners and those with SEND who are starting their vocational learning journey.

Level 1

Level 1 courses help learners build on their basic knowledge and start to develop practical and theoretical skills relevant to a specific subject or career area. They provide a gentle introduction to working safely, following instructions, and using simple tools or equipment. Assessment is often through practical tasks and short written work.

Ideal for: Learners progressing from Entry Level or those new to a vocational area.

Level 2

Level 2 qualifications are equivalent to GCSE level and provide a deeper understanding of the subject area. Learners are expected to work more independently, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and show a solid understanding of both practical and theoretical knowledge. Assessment may include practical demonstrations, written assignments, and short tests.

Learners who have completed Level 1 or are ready for a more challenging, career-focused qualification. Level 2 courses are broadly equivalent to GCSE level and support progression into further education and employment.
