Your Questions Answered

Who is hybrid learning suitable for?

Hybrid learning is ideal for learners who would benefit from greater flexibility, including home-educated learners, those with SEND, learners experiencing anxiety, or those who live further away from the farm.

What qualifications can be studied through hybrid learning?

We offer a range of animal care and land-based qualifications through our hybrid learning model.

What age do learners need to be?

Age requirements vary depending on the qualification. Please see individual course pages for specific entry requirements.

Can I start a hybrid course at any time of the year?

Yes. Our hybrid learning programmes offer flexible enrolment, allowing learners to start at various points throughout the year rather than waiting for a traditional academic intake.

How much of the course is completed at home?

For most qualifications, up to 80% of the learning is theory-based and can be completed from home. Learners then attend the farm for practical training, hands-on experience, and assessments, allowing them to develop and demonstrate their skills in a real working environment.

Do learners still need to attend the farm?

Yes. Practical learning and assessments must be completed in person to achieve the qualification.

How often will I need to attend the farm?

Attendance requirements vary depending on the qualification, individual learner needs, and chosen study programme. Typically, learners attend a practical farm session after completing the theory-based learning for each unit, allowing them to apply their knowledge and complete practical assessments. For learners who do not live locally, it may be possible to arrange practical training and assessments over one or two full days, reducing the number of visits required while still meeting qualification requirements.

How are assessments completed?

Assessment methods vary depending on the qualification. For our Hybrid City & Guilds qualifications, learners are required to complete both theory and practical assessments on the farm. These assessments allow learners to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills in a real working environment and ensure all qualification requirements are met.

What support is available during the course?

Learners receive ongoing support from their dedicated one-to-one tutor, including feedback and grading of completed work, guidance with assignments, regular progress reviews, and assistance in preparing for practical and theory assessments.

Can hybrid learning work for learners with anxiety or additional needs?

Many learners find hybrid learning beneficial because it allows theory work to be completed in a familiar environment while still accessing practical learning and tutor support.

How do I know if the course level is right for my child?

Prior to enrolment, we can provide access to a small sample of the online course so that parents and learners can assess whether the qualification level and learning materials are suitable. We can also provide copies of selected resources to help parents understand the course content and support their child throughout their studies.

What equipment will I need at home?

Learners will need access to a computer, laptop, or tablet, a reliable internet connection, and Microsoft Word or similar word-processing software.

Do I need to be confident using technology?

No. Basic digital skills are usually sufficient, and support can be provided where needed.

Will I still get hands-on experience with animals?

Yes. Practical skills development remains a key part of the qualification, with learners attending the farm for training and assessments..

Can I complete the entire qualification online?

No. Land-based qualifications include practical elements that must be completed in person.

Can I arrange a visit before enrolling?

Yes. We encourage prospective learners and families to visit the farm, meet the team, and discuss the most suitable learning options. Please email us education@framptonfarm.co.uk to make an appointment.
