Level 1 Land Based Studies Certificate (Land Based Construction) Hybrid
The Level 1 Land-Based Studies Certificate is delivered as a hybrid learning programme, combining online theory-based study with practical experience in a real farm environment. Learners develop a broad range of skills, knowledge, and experience across the land-based sector through activities such as fencing and boundary maintenance, pathway construction and repair, habitat and land management, safe use of tools and equipment, and other practical countryside and farm-based tasks.
Alongside practical learning, learners build essential employability and life skills including teamwork, communication, problem-solving, independence, time management, and personal responsibility. Learners are supported to work both independently and collaboratively, developing confidence and preparing for future progression.
As a larger qualification than the Level 1 Land-Based Studies Award, the certificate covers a wider range of units and provides learners with more in-depth practical experience and industry knowledge. This one-year programme is ideal for learners who are looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of the land-based sector and supports progression into higher-level qualifications, volunteering opportunities, supported internships, apprenticeships, or employment within land-based industries.

How you will learn
The theory component of the course is accessed through our online learning platform. Each unit includes a range of learning materials such as:

Short worksheets
Learners will work through the theory of one unit at a time. As they approach the end of each unit, their tutor will contact them to arrange a farm visit.
During each farm visit, learners will complete:
The practical learning element of the unit.
The practical assessment of the unit.
The short oral or written assessment to demonstrate their understanding and skills.
